Senior Theses So Far

A full house in the library as Elizabeth discusses the importance of suffering well in The Scarlet Letter.

For the last several weeks we’ve been gathering in the library after school to listen to members of the Class of 2018 present their senior theses. I have not left a single presentation feeling anything other than proud. The seniors are presenting thoughtful arguments about important books. Our middle and high school students are sitting in the audience, attentive, taking notes, and asking thoughtful questions of the seniors. Parents are chiming in with questions of their own and marveling at how quickly their children have grown up. Our whole upper school faculty is thoughtfully advising students on literature, philosophy, and history, even when they don’t teach those subjects themselves. Sometimes the students are giving their teachers new and challenging things to think about.

If you haven’t yet joined us from 4:00-5:00pm to hear one of our seniors present, please join us for one of the upcoming talks in the next two weeks. There’s truly no better way to see the fruit of a liberal arts education and to understand the mission of our school.
